For awhile now...
let me try again.
All the time I stink at being patient and disciplined. For Ralphie, it was an Official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200 shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock.. for me it is being an official part of a ministry again.
God doesn't tell me it is a terrible idea and that I'll shoot my eye out, He tells me, "Not right now."
Jesus had 12 disciples, and off the top of my head I can probably name half of them... let's see... John, Peter, both James-es, Matthew, Andrew, Thomas, Judas... = 8 out of the 12. As tempted as I am to use Google and find out the rest of the names, that would be cheating and would only give more evidence to the fact that I'm impatient and undisciplined. The reason I brought up the naming of the 12 disciples is because perhaps deep down I focus on the title of ministry... being named.. having an @SomeChristianChurch.com e-mail address... instead of just being a part of a ministry.
Although I didn't remember those four names, I know without a doubt that the people touched by their ministries know their names. And there were a lot more people who were important parts of His ministry that we will never hear of because it wasn't written down in the Bible. I doubt that those ministers got butt hurt that they weren't included in the official club. What mattered was that they were being faithful to God's calling and serving regardless of any sort of recognition. It's like that whole unsung hero thing.
I used to be like that a lot better than I am now.
"The kids have never cared about your position. They see you and love you, because they know that your heart is for them."
This thought woke me up, got me out of bed, led me to sign up for a blog, and write it down so I will never forget. And in case anyone ever read this they can grab me by the shoulder and tell me to wake up.
What the world tells you that you need is so much different than what God tells you that you need. That Red Ryder advertisement tells you that what you need to do is spend your Christmas money to buy their product. Everything is about status and the new thing. Well I think i'm going to go old school and bust out a Stussy brand t-shirt and forget about what the world tells me to think about status... well if I had a Stussy shirt I totally would.. or maybe a Gecko one would be even better.. HAHA...
It is time to get back to the heart of serving God. Those kids at camp never cared about my resume. My students at Calvary never cared about my college education. My misfit youth group kids never cared about my personal references. And neither does God.
It is time to get back on the ball. Whatever my title or rank is, if I'm paid or I'm volunteer should have absolutely no bearing on my serving Him. Thanks God for getting me up early today.
